Man Arrested for Stealing Purses from Women in Parking Lots
Suffolk County Police today arrested a Coram man for stealing purses from women walking in commercial parking lots last month.
An investigation by Sixth Squad detectives into three incidents during which a man in a vehicle would drive up to a female walking and steal her purse led to the arrest of Andrew Sunyar. Sunyar was charged with three counts of Grand Larceny 4th Degree for the following incidents:
• A purse was stolen from a female walking in the Stop and Shop parking lot, located at 385 Route 25A, Miller Place, on February 25 at 5:51 p.m.
• A purse was stolen from a female walking in the Kohl’s parking lot, located at 5000 Route 347, Setauket, on February 24 at 11:36 a.m.
• A purse was stolen from a female walking in the Walmart parking lot, located at 750 Route 25, Middle Island, on February 23 at 1:19 p.m.
Sunyar, 36, of 1 Wicket St., was also charged with a warrant for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree. He will be held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on March 7.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
