Man on the run until Friday wreck facing numerous drug charges
Detective Patrick Guion of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Dustin Coyt Lawing, 32, of 50 Reds Hill Road in Marion, with three counts of possession with intent to sell and deliver a Schedule II controlled substance, two counts each of trafficking heroin or opium and conspiracy to sell and deliver a Schedule IV controlled substance and one count each of possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, possession with intent to sell and deliver a Schedule III controlled substance and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Guion aided N.C. Highway Patrol troopers and Marion police officers with a traffic stop on West Henderson Street on the night of Friday, Jan. 26.
Trooper Phillip Ruppe stopped the car for having a fictitious tag and found Lawing driving.
A search of the suspect and the vehicle turned up two firearms and ammunition, 29.1 grams of marijuana, 53 Oxycodone pills, 33 other miscellaneous pills and cash.
Lawing has been on the run from authorities for weeks. He was apprehended and charged by Marion Police Department Friday evening, March 2 after causing a wreck on Sugar Hill Road. At the time of his arrest, authorities located a firearm on him, as well as quantities of meth and marijuana. That’s when he was also served with Guion’s outstanding warrants.
