Reported threat results in lockdown, arrest

The Folsom Police Department made an arrest today after a reported threat through text message, directed at Vista del Lago High School in Folsom. The reported threat also resulted in a temporary lockdown at the school. Students and staff were safe throughout the lockdown. Officers from the Folsom Police Department were sent to the school as an additional safety measure while other officers contacted the student who allegedly made the threat.

The student was not at the school and was contacted at a relative’s home. Although there is no indication he was planning to carry out the threat, investigators determined that his threat was criminal.  Ryan Bernal, 18, of Sacramento, was booked into the Sacramento County Jail on suspicion of making Criminal Threats.

This case is an important reminder that threats are taken seriously and investigated. These threats can result in arrest and prosecution.  “The safety of our schools is our highest priority. We will continue to fully investigate any report of threats, and take appropriate action,” said Sergeant Bill Bradshaw.

A photo of Bernal is attached.  No additional details about the incident are available at this time.
