On Friday, March 2, 2018, the Milpitas Police Department received a report of a suspicious social media posting regarding a possible threat at a nonspecific school. The Milpitas Police Department established the posting was based on several levels of hearsay and has not found any evidence to validate the possible threat. Although we have not identified an immediate danger to public safety, in an abundance of caution, there is an increased police presence on school grounds. We understand the public’s concern about these type of incidents and want to ensure the public that the safety of our students is the Milpitas Police Department’s top priority.

The Milpitas Police Department would like to thank the Milpitas Unified School District and the many students who came forward for their cooperation.

The Milpitas Police Department’s investigation into the social media posting continues.

We have been able to determine the posting came to light via several levels of hearsay. We continue to try to determine the origin of the original posting as well as identify the person(s) responsible for the original posting.

Incidents such as these are taken seriously by the Milpitas Police Department and will be investigated to its fullest.

We would like to reiterate our commitment to the safety of our students in Milpitas.

Out of an abundance of caution, you will see an increased police presence near schools throughout the day.

We have contacted the student who re-posted the social media posting which started our investigation.

This student had no additional information regarding the origin of the original social media posting. It appears the original social media posting was re-posted several times by friends before reaching the student.

The Milpitas Police Department takes all online and in-person threats seriously and investigates them fully. Public safety and the safety of our students is a priority.

As a precautionary measure, we will continue to have an increased police presence around our schools.

Public safety and the safety of our students is our top priority. You may see an increased police presence around our schools.

We understand the concern this social media posting has created for parents and students.

We ask that you please do not call 911 unless you have specific information regarding this investigation or are reporting another emergency.

We will update you as additional information becomes available.




The Milpitas Police Department is aware of and currently investigating a social media posting involving an unnamed school.

We are trying to determine the credibility of the posting and determine if there is any connection to any of our schools in Milpitas.

We are working in conjunction with the Milpitas Unified School District and take postings like this seriously as the safety of the students is a top priority.

As a result you may see an increased police presence near our schools today.
