...STRONG TO DAMAGING WINDS EXPECTED ACROSS THE MOUNTAINS OF THE WESTERN CAROLINAS AND NORTHEAST GEORGIA AS WELL AS THE NORTH CAROLINA PIEDMONT THROUGH AT LEAST FRIDAY NIGHT... .A strong cold front will move across the region late today. The winds will shift to northwesterly behind the front this evening, and strengthen significantly as low pressure develops well to our north through Friday. The strong northwest winds will continue through the day Friday and then overnight before tapering off Saturday morning. ...WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 7 AM FRIDAY TO MIDNIGHT EST FRIDAY NIGHT... The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a Wind Advisory, which is in effect from 7 AM Friday to midnight EST Friday night.

* LOCATIONS...The piedmont of western North Carolina.

* HAZARDS...Strong winds

* TIMING...Winds will gradually ramp up Friday morning and then maximize across the region Friday afternoon before diminishing Friday evening.

* WINDS...Northwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts of 30 to 40 mph. A few gusts in the 40 to 50 mph will be possible during mid afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs and weakly rooted trees could be blown down. Scattered power outages may result.
