Crime Alert Bulletin

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Wednesday, 02-21-18 at 1:45 a.m., a 28-year old Daly City resident was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic collision involving a parked car on the 100 block of Canterbury Avenue.

On Wednesday, 02-21-18 at 10:00 a.m., a 50-year old San Francisco resident was arrested for giving false information to a peace officer, resisting arrest and for possession of methamphetamine after she was caught shoplifting and refusing to leave the Dollar Tree store on Geneva Avenue.

On Wednesday, 02-21-18, at 3:15 p.m., subsequent to a traffic stop at Park Plaza Drive at Southgate Avenue, Officer Jackson arrested the driver, a 49-year old Daly City resident, for possession of a controlled substance (rock cocaine) with the intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with the intent distribute, and for an outstanding warrant.

On Friday, 02-23-18 at 2:00 p.m., Officer Lickness took a report from a subject who said he was the victim of numerous fraudulent purchases and identity theft. The victim said the day before, he received a phone call from Patelco Credit Union on Southgate Avenue who told him someone attempted to withdraw cash from his account. Before the transaction was completed, the teller suspected the subject who was trying to withdraw the money was not the account holder. The subject left once the teller told him to wait to verify the account. The subject produced a fake California driver's license with the victim’s information on it to the teller. The victim lives in Antioch and has never done any banking in Daly City. The victim said he had been the victim of multiple fraudulent purchases, including one where the subject used his information to purchase vehicle service at a Firestone Tire company in Hayward. The victim said the subject used a phone number for the service at Firestone, and he was able to look up the phone number on Facebook and found a subject’s name. Officer Lickness looked up the registered owner of the vehicle, and that matched the subject’s name the victim found on Facebook. Two days later, officers arrested the 42-year old suspect from San Francisco for commercial burglary, impersonate to make others liable, fraud, forgery of an access card, obtain credit with another’s identification, and use of other’s identification with the intent to defraud.

On Friday, 02-23-18 at 8:04 p.m., Officer Ciucci was dispatched to the Hope Lutheran Church on San Fernando Way on a report of several auto burglaries that just occurred. While en route, Officer Ciucci saw five juvenile males wearing dark colored clothing with dark backpacks walking southbound on Sullivan Avenue near the St. Andrew’s Church parking lot. The officer was able to look at surveillance footage of the burglary via CCTV footage and saw the same five subjects he saw earlier commit the burglaries. A witness saw two subjects get on the Sam Trans bus. The subjects were located in the area of King Drive and Gellert Boulevard after they committed two more auto burglaries. The subjects, a 12-year old and 14-year old both from Daly City, were subsequently arrested for vehicle burglary, possession of stolen property, conspiracy to commit a crime, and possession of burglary tools. The 12-year old was also charged with obstructing and resisting a police officer. The investigation is continuing to determine the identity of the other subjects.

On Friday, 02-23-18 at 9:53 p.m., Officer Cain was dispatched to Seton Hospital on a report of a subject who was using someone else’s medical card and I.D. card to obtain medical services. The emergency room medical staff told the officer the subject was in the waiting room with his daughter. Officer Cain looked at the photo on the I.D. card and took note of the name. When Officer Cain contacted the subject, he saw the subject had a hat and a hospital mask around his face. The officer immediately noticed the subject’s skin color did not match the skin color on the I.D. card. Officer Cain asked the subject if he had any identification, and the subject said he lost his wallet. The officer brought the subject away from his 8-year old daughter and told him to be honest with him. The 40-year old subject from Valley Springs, apologized for lying and admitted to giving a false name. The subject explained he didn’t have health coverage and said he needed to have an X-ray on his hand. Officer Cain contacted the subject listed on the medical card, and the subject said his wallet was taken during a residential burglary a few months prior. The subject was arrested for commercial burglary, identity theft, impersonating others to make liable, and for forgery. The child’s mother picked up the daughter.

Nextdoor.com

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up, and I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t actually live there. Please note: the City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
