A woman died after stepping in front of an approaching train on tracks near Dyer St, Union City, CA.

On February 28, 2018 at 9:17 AM, the Union City Police Department received a report of a train versus pedestrian collision on the railroad tracks near Dyer Street and Alvarado Blvd in Union City. 
 
Responding officers determined that an adult female had been standing alone near the railroad tracks as an Amtrak passenger train was approaching.  At least one driver had stopped on Dyer Street for the activated railroad crossing signals and witnessed the pedestrian step onto the tracks in front of the approaching train.  The pedestrian was struck and died at the scene.  Union Pacific Railroad police investigators responded and are investigating this collision.
 
The identity of the pedestrian is not known at this time and the Alameda County Coroner's Office will assist with the identification and notifying next of kin.
