Deputies and CHP Officers apprehended a subject for Felony Evading in a stolen vehicle

LOCATION: I-40 / East Broadway St, Needles, CA
SUSPECT: Anthony Martin, 22 years, Lakeland, FL
Vehicle: 2006 Jeep Cherokee reported stolen in Florida
SUMMARY:
On Tuesday February 27, 2018 at 7:41am, Deputy Bevan responded to a report of a suspicious person attempting to open car doors in the 3300 block of Needles Hwy. Upon arrival, Deputy Bevan located the person, Anthony Martin, walking on Needles Hwy and detained him. During the investigation it was learned the California Highway Patrol was pursuing a reported stolen vehicle driven by Martin. Martin abandon the vehicle in the area of Needles Hwy and fled on foot, when he was apprehended by Deputy Bevan.
Martin was turned over to the custody of the CHP for their investigation and he was subsequently booked into the Colorado River Station jail for vehicle theft and felony evading with bail set at $100,000. The arrest was the result of great teamwork by SBSD deputies and CHP officers who removed a dangerous criminal from the streets.
