Marijuana Enforcement Team served a search warrant and found over 5,560 marijuana plants at various stages of growth

DATE/TIME: Friday, February 23, 2018 / 3:00 p.m.

INCIDENT: Indoor Marijuana Grow & Theft of Utilities

LOCATION: 13500 Block Centola Road, Phelan

SUSPECT(S): Zhongcheng CHEN, age 37, Transient / #2) Shuhong HUANG, age 29, Transient

SUMMARY:

The Sheriff’s Gangs/Narcotics Division - Marijuana Enforcement Team (MET) served a search warrant at the residence in the 13500 block of Centola Road and found an indoor marijuana grow. Over 5,560 marijuana plants, in various stages of growth, and several pounds of processed marijuana was found inside the residence. The grow operation used advanced lighting, air conditioning, fans, exhaust blowers and to control the climate inside the residence as well as an air-filtering system to control the odor of marijuana.

Both suspects were found inside the residence during the search warrant service. One suspect climbed into the attic space to avoid arrest but was found by investigators and a CHP K9 unit. They were arrested without incident and later booked at the High Desert Detention Center.

California’s newest form of marijuana laws, MAUCRSA, went into full effect on January 1st. San Bernardino County has an ordinance prohibiting Commercial Cannabis Activity. San Bernardino County Land Use Services - Code Enforcement personnel will assist in the investigation.

The Sheriff’s Gangs/Narcotics Division will continue to enforce California’s marijuana laws as well as the San Bernardino County ordinance.

Persons found to be violating the state marijuana laws and county ordinance are subject to fines, prosecution, and seizure of property. Property owners who are aware their tenants are growing marijuana on their rental properties in violation of state law and local ordinances may also be subject to civil or criminal sanctions.

The suspect(s) will face charges of Maintaining a Drug House; Cultivation of Cannabis-over 6 plants and Conspiracy.
