...POTENTIAL FOR HEAVY RAIN THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING... ...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS EVENING... The National Weather Service in Lincoln has expanded the

* Flood Watch to include portions of central Illinois and east central Illinois, including the following areas, in central Illinois, Shelby. In east central Illinois, Coles and Edgar.

* Through this evening

* Rain will continue through Saturday evening. The rain may be heavy at times, especially on Saturday afternoon. Around 2 inches of rain are expected through Saturday evening, though some locally higher totals are possible in thunderstorms.

* This area has received up to 2 inches of rain so far this week, and the ground is saturated. Much of the rain will be unable to be absorbed into the soil, resulting in flooding of low lying areas, and near ditches and streams. Flooding along area rivers will be enhanced with this additional runoff.

* AFFECTED AREAS: COLES ... EDGAR ... SHELBY

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
