Advisory

Hilton Head Middle School threat investigated and not substantiated. We recommend students attend school tomorrow.

This afternoon, Beaufort County School administrators at the Hilton Head Island Middle School made a Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer (SRO) aware of writing on the wall of a female bathroom advising students not to attend school on tomorrow, as there would be killings. The Sheriff's Office immediately began investigating and, as of tonight, has uncovered no discernable threat to students.

Based on the investigative findings, we encourage students to attend school tomorrow. There will be an increased law enforcement presence on and around the Hilton Head Island Middle School campus throughout the day, which will include SRO's, patrol deputies and investigators.

The Sheriff’s Office and Beaufort County School District urge students to report suspicious activity and threats of violence immediately to law enforcement and school administrators. We are asking anyone with information on the identity of the person that wrote the threat on the wall of a female bathroom at the Hilton Head Island Middle School to contact the Sheriff's Office at 843-524-2777 or CrimeStoppers 1-888-CrimeSC if wishing to remain anonymous and for possible reward.

Thank you for your continued interest in the safety of our schools and community.
