Janesville Police Explorer Post 500 competes at WLEEA State Competition

Police Explorers compete at WLEEA State Competition

The Janesville Police Explorer POST 500 represented the Janesville Police Department at the annual Wisconsin Law Enforcement Explorer Association (WLEEA) state competition and explorer conference at the Chula Vista resort in the Wisconsin Dells on February 9, 10, and 11, 2018. Explorers from all over the state competed in seven different areas of law enforcement skills, which were judged by local, state, and federal law enforcement officers and agents from Wisconsin.

The explorers receive training and guidance all year in a variety of topics from police officers who volunteer to be advisors. This year, the explorers were judged in the following areas:

1. Crash Reconstruction
2. Shoot / Don’t shoot (use of force decision making)
3. Domestic Disturbance
4. Dispatch Operations
5. Search and Arrest
6. Burglary in Progress
7. Bomb Threat
8. Legal Exam

This year, four explorers from the Janesville Post 500 attended the conference. The team consisted of Caleb Zanoni, Jake Fisher, Cameron Morovits, and Hailey Laube. Officers Rogelio Carrasco and Eric Grahn, along with associate advisor Ty Mueller attended the conference with the Post 500. This was the fourth year the Post 500 competed at the WLEEA conference.

Post 500 placed in the top three in two different areas. They placed third in crash reconstruction. During this scenario based event, explorers had to demonstrate and verbalize to the judges the steps they would take to accurately investigate a traffic crash. They placed second in the legal exam after listening to a lecture by Wisconsin Assistant Attorney General Dave Perlman. The exam showed the explorers understood the legal basis for the decisions they made during the conference.

Congratulations to Post 500 for their accomplishments at the WLEEA conference and thank you to those in the community who have and continue to support Post 500 and law enforcement exploring events.
