California Alert Notices - What are they and how do they work?

Amber Alert. Blue Alert. Silver Alert. Yellow Alert. What are they and how do they work?
The alerts, managed by the California Highway Patrol, are distributed to law enforcement, activated on changeable message signs along highways throughout the state and by sending emergency digital information service messages to a broad audience for a quick response.

Amber Alert - a confirmed incident of abduction has occurred to a victim 17 years of age or younger, or with a proven mental or physical disability. There is reason to believe the victim is in imminent danger of serious bodily injury or death.

Blue Alert - a law enforcement officer has been killed, suffers serious bodily injury or is assaulted with a deadly weapon, and the suspect has fled the scene of the incident. The suspect poses an imminent threat to the public or other law enforcement personnel.

Silver Alert - missing person 65 years of age or older, developmentally disabled or cognitively impaired. Law enforcement believes the person is in danger because of age, health, mental of physical disability, environment, weather or may be in the company of a potentially dangerous person, gone missing under unexplained or suspicious circumstances.

Yellow Alert - hit and run incident that resulted in a serious injury or death.
