Police Blotter January 19th through January 29th

January 19th

Residential Burglary - 5500 Block of MacDonald Ave:
An officer reported an unknown suspect entered the victim’s residence via smashing a side window. The suspect conducted a major ransack and stole property.

DUI – Moeser Ln / Avis Dr:
An officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested a 49-year-old El Cerrito man for DUI. He was booked at the ECPD and released on a citation.

Vehicle Burglary – San Pablo Ave / Orchard Ave:
Between 1000 and 2200 hours, an unknown suspect smashed the rear passenger window of the victim’s white Ford F-150 and stole a backpack containing climbing equipment from inside the vehicle.

Vehicle Burglary – IFO 10116 San Pablo Ave:
Between 2015 and 2200 hours, an unknown suspect smashed the front passenger window of the victim’s silver Tesla Model X and stole a black Ikea backpack containing a silver Macbook Air and $500 cash from the front floor area.

Vehicle Burglary – San Pablo Ave / Orchard Ave:
At 2129 hours, a black male in his 20’s, wearing a red sweatshirt with black and white lettering shattered the rear window of the victim’s Hyundai Elantra and stole a purse from the rear passenger seat. The suspect fled southbound on San Pablo Avenue.

Vehicle Burglary – 10200 block of San Pablo Ave:
Between 2058 and 2217 hours, an unknown suspect smashed the right front window of the victim’s black Ford Mustang and stole a $300 Louis Vuitton purse from under the front seat.

Vehicle Burglary – 10000 block of San Pablo Ave:
Between 2045 and 2338 hours, an unknown suspect smashed the right front window of the victim’s silver Toyota Avalon and stole a backpack containing personal items from the right front seat.

Vehicle Burglary – Santa Clara Ave / Lassen St:
Between 1700 hours on 1/18 and 2349 hours on 1/19, an unknown suspect smashed the right rear door window of the victim’s Ford Econoline van and stole approximately $850 worth of landscaping power tools.

January 21st

Petty Theft - (Walgreens) 11565 San Pablo Ave:
An officer was dispatched to a theft that had just occurred. Employees advised the suspect entered Walgreens and loaded a hand basket with property and left the store without paying.
Warrant Arrest – I-80 and Cutting Blvd:

An officer conducted a traffic stop and subsequently arrested a passenger, a 23-year-old female from Rodeo for an outstanding warrant out of San Jose. The female was booked and cited.

DUI – Central Ave and Yosemite St:
At 0154 hours, an officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested the driver, a 26-year-old male from Rodeo, for DUI. The male was booked and cited out to a friend.

January 22nd

Warrant Arrest – Carlson Blvd and Plumas Ave:
An officer conducted a traffic stop and subsequently arrested the driver 52-year-old male from Vallejo, for an outstanding Solano County warrant. The male was booked and then taken to county jail.

Residential burglary – 2700 block of Arlington Blvd:
An officer responded for an audible alarm at a residence. The officer arrived and found that an unknown suspect shattered a front window and entered the home.

Residential Burglary, Stolen Vehicle – 7300 block of Stockton Ave:
An unknown suspect entered the residence through an unsecured bathroom window, conducted a ransack, and stole electronics and antiques. The key for the victim’s vehicle was on the counter and the vehicle was also stolen.

Vandalism – 6000 El Cerrito Plaza:
Between 1200 and 2240 hours, the victim’s 2015 Jeep Cherokee was vandalized with a permanent ink marker. The suspect marked up the majority of the vehicle.

January 23rd

Shoplift – (Safeway) 11450 San Pablo Ave:
An officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 28-year-old transient man after he stole alcohol from the store. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released on a citation.

Shoplift – (Safeway) 11450 San Pablo Ave:
An officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 30-year-old transient man after he stole food from the store. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released on a citation.

Misc. Casualty – Central Ave:
At approximately 1240 hours, officers were dispatched to do a welfare check on an elderly resident (81 years of age) who had not been heard from in two weeks. He lived on Central Avenue near the Plaza BART station. An Officer looked through windows and saw the man on the ground. Officers then made entry and confirmed that the resident had passed away. (Apparently of natural causes / Name withheld at this time due to family notifications). Officers in the home could see what appeared to be three military grenades. Calls were made for a Bomb Squad response. ECFD and AMR also staged in the area. Police and Fire evacuated approximately 5 homes, which were near the residence in an abundance of caution.

The USAF from Travis dispatched an EOD team. ECPD kept the area cordoned off and awaited the Bomb Squad. They arrived approximately 45 minutes later. EOD technicians determined they were replicas and did not contain explosive materials. They were collected for destruction. Within minutes, the street was reopened and a mortuary summoned for the deceased resident. His relatives also arrived at the home.

Residential burglary – 3200 block of Belmont Ave:
Sometime between 0930 and 1400 hours, an unknown suspect entered the victim’s residence via an unlocked window and stole property.

Shoplift – (Safeway) 11450 San Pablo Ave:
Officers were dispatched to Safeway for a theft that had just occurred. Prior to their arrival, 5 teenagers entered the store and shoplifted merchandise. Officers located two 17-year-old Richmond girls in the 4600 block of Cutting Blvd. An in-field show up was conducted and they were positively identified as the responsible. They were arrested and booked at the El Cerrito Police Department before being released to their parents.

Warrant – San Pablo Ave / Cutting Blvd:
At 2035 hours, an officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested a 29-year-old Richmond man on a San Mateo County Warrant. He was booked at ECPD and released on a citation.

Vandalism – 2400 block of Edwards Ave:
An unknown suspect broke the front passenger window of the victim’s Toyota Corolla. Nothing appears to have been stolen.

January 24th

Auto burglary – 6900 block of Gladys Ave:
Sometime overnight, an unknown suspect shattered the victim’s vehicle window and stole the vehicle manual and insurance paperwork.

Vehicle theft – 6200 block of Cypress Ave:
Sometime between 1/23/18 at 1700 hours and 1/24/18 at 0700 hours, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s 1984 Toyota pickup.

Shoplift, Warrant arrest – (CVS) 10650 San Pablo Ave:
An officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 58-year-old Richmond man after he stole merchandise from the business. The man also had two outstanding warrants. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released on a citation.

Fight in Public – 400 block of Kearney St:
Two men, who were known to each other, got into a verbal argument which turned physical and a fight ensued. Both suffered minor injuries but declined medical attention. The involved parties did not want prosecution.

Stolen Vehicle Recovery – (Safeway) 11450 San Pablo Ave:
An officer investigated a suspicious vehicle and recovered a 1992 Toyota Tacoma pickup which was reported stolen to Richmond Police on 1/22/18.

January 26th

Strong Arm – Richmond St. and Eureka Ave:
An Officer reports the victim was walking north on Richmond Street and observed a group of juveniles walking behind her. Afraid, she began to run. However one of the suspects grabbed her from the back and threw her to the ground. While on the ground one of the suspects took the victim’s purse which contained her cell phone and wallet. One of the suspects removed $120 in cash for the victim’s wallet and threw the wallet on the ground the group then fled south on Richmond Street toward the Plaza BART station with the victim’s purse and cell phone.

Auto Burglary – 1800 block of Arlington Blvd:
An officer reports the rear passenger window of the victim’s vehicle was shattered and the suspect(s) removed a bag containing a set of jumper cables.

Shoplifting and Obstruction – (Safeway) 11450 San Pablo Ave:
Officers responded to a report of shoplifting at the business. The reporting party advised the suspect was a 33-year-old male known to employees. The male entered the business intending to speak to his ex-girlfriend (who is employed at Safeway) but was told she was busy. The male then selected beer and cupcakes and left the store without paying from them. A short time later the male returned and was spotted by officers in the parking lot. An officer advised the male was the suspect and attempted to contact the male. The male disobeyed several orders to stop and sit down. At one point, the male removed his jacket and took an aggressive posture. The male was subsequently taken to the ground and taken into custody uninjured. The male was booked and then taken to county jail.

Possession of a Controlled Substance and Paraphernalia – San Pablo Ave. and El Dorado St:
An officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested the passenger, a 57-year-old female from Richmond, for being in possession of a usable amount of a stimulant and two glass pipes. The female was booked and released on a citation.

January 27th

Residential Burglary – 600 block of Lexington Ave:
An officer reports unknown suspect entered the victims’ residence via unlock rear sliding glass door and took an laptop and car keys. The suspect then stole one of the victim’s vehicles.

Miscellaneous Report – (Starbucks) 11861 San Pablo Ave:
Officers responded to a report of a two males who were involved in a verbal altercation at the business. Both of the males called and reported the other threatened him and was armed. Officers arrived on scene and contacted a 60-year-old male inside the business and he was detained. The second male, a 49-year-old male returned in his vehicle and was also detained. A search of both males and their vehicles revealed no weapons. Interviews revealed the males got into a verbal dispute about the 60-year-old smoking outside the business and both threatened each other. Both refused prosecution and declined a report.

Outside Assist – Marina Bay and Regatta Blvd:
The Richmond Police responded to a report of a possible sideshow at the listed location. RPD units arrived on scene and began clearing out the crowd of 100 people and 40 vehicles. While clearing the sideshow a Richmond officer was struck by one of the fleeing vehicles. Richmond requested outside assistance and ECPD units responded to assist in blocking roadways and clearing crowds. Two El Cerrito Police officers searched the nearby areas and located a vehicle unoccupied with a damaged windshield. One of the officers remained with the vehicle until he was relieved by a Richmond officer. It later be discovered the vehicle was the vehicle that struck the Richmond officer.

Outside Assist – 2800 block of Macdonald Ave:
At 0147 hours, Richmond received a shot spotter alert of possible 25 rounds being fired at the location. A witness called and advised a red two door vehicle with black panels was at the location and the front passenger was the person firing rounds. Two El Cerrito Police officers responded to location at Richmond’s request and located 25 casings in the intersection. CHP was also on scene and was out with a vehicle that matched a description of the suspect vehicle given by a witness. The subjects in the vehicle were contacted and a search of the vehicle and subjects yielded negative results. Subjects were ID’ed and released.

January 28th

Shoplifting and Warrant Arrest – (CVS) 10650 San Pablo Ave:
An officer reports the arrest of a 17-year-old female from Richmond and an 18-year-old male from Richmond after the two entered CVS and concealed merchandise and left without paying. Both were placed under citizen’s arrest. During booking it was discovered the female had a juvenile warrant. The male was booked and cited. The female was transported to a CPS facility in Concord.

Possession of a Controlled Substance and Syringes – (Starbucks) 11861 San Pablo Ave:
An officer responded to the business for an unwanted subject. The officer arrived and contacted a 30-year-old male from Pinole. The male was on probation out of Contra Costa County and a probation search revealed several syringes with one containing a suspected controlled substance. The male was booked and released on a citation.

Shoplifting – (Safeway) 11450 San Pablo Ave:
An officer responded to a report of a shoplifting in progress. The officer arrived on scene and contacted a 25-year-old male. The male concealed items in his jacket and left without paying for the property. The male was placed under citizen’s arrest. The male was booked then released on a citation.

Shoplifting – (Safeway) 11450 San Pablo Ave:
While investigating a shoplifting, Safeway security advised of another male who walked out the business with concealed merchandise. An officer contacted the male, a 23-year-old male on the BART and discovered he had frozen bags of shrimp down his pants. The male was then booked and cited.

Poss. of a Cntl. Subs, Poss. of Burglary Tools, Poss. of Paraphernalia and Parolee at Large – Cutting Blvd and Key Blvd:
An officer conducted a traffic stop and subsequently arrested a 40-year-old male and a 37-year-old male. The 40-year-old was a parolee at large and was also in possession of a suspected controlled substance, a glass pipe and shaved keys. The 37-year-old male was also in possession of a controlled substance, glass pipe and shaved keys. The 37-year-old male was booked and cited. The 40-year-old male was booked and transported to county jail.

January 29th

Warrant Arrest – (Walgreen’s) 11565 San Pablo Ave:
An officer responded to the business for a report of an unwanted person. The officer arrived and contacted a 41-year-old female and discovered she had two outstanding warrants. The female was booked and released on a citation.
