Advisory

A 7 Ton Weight Limit Now in Effect on Franklin Avenue Railroad Bridge

Effective immediately, a 7 ton weight limit has been enacted for the railroad bridge on Franklin Avenue. This bridge is located between Palmer Road and Astro Place. As such, access to/from Route 46 and Route 10 by vehicles exceeding the weight limit will be prohibited.

7 tons is equal to 14,000 pounds. Generally, anything larger than a heavy duty pick-up truck will exceed the 14,000 pound weight limit and must use an alternate route, such as listed below. As vehicle weights can vary greatly from one type of vehicle to another, please refer to your vehicle’s actual weight as listed in the owner’s manual or on the sticker typically found on the frame inside the driver’s door for specific information pertaining to your vehicle.

If your vehicle exceeds the weight limit, please use one of the following alternate routes:

To access Route 10 from Route 46: Take Route 46 to Rockaway Avenue to Franklin Avenue to South Salem Street to Route 10.

To access Route 46 from Route 10: Take Franklin Road to Franklin Avenue to Palmer Road to Rockaway Avenue to Route 46.

At this time, this weight limit is expected to remain in place for the foreseeable future. If and when any restrictions change, further notices will be released. Thank you for your cooperation
