SUMMARY:
On February 5, 2018, Deputy Tyler McGee with the Apple Valley Police Department spotted a stolen tractor and trailer in the area of Central Road and Standing Rock Road. The driver of the big rig failed to yield to emergency vehicles and led deputies on a 26-mile pursuit.
The driver, identified as James Revere Edgley, drove through Apple Valley and eventually entered northbound Interstate 15. Edgley called dispatch centers for both the California Highway Patrol and Sheriff’s Department and indicated he was not armed, did not want to hurt anyone, but planned on driving over a cliff. Edgley insisted he would not go back into custody. Responding deputies coordinated with aviation and ground units from the Sheriff’s Department and CHP. A CHP ground unit was able to deploy spike strips which were effective in deflating the big rig’s tires. Despite the fact the big rig’s tires were flattened and disintegrating, Edgley continued to drive for another mile and a half. Eventually, Edgley stopped, exited the big rig and was taken into custody.
The tractor Edgley drove was reported stolen from Victorville on February 3, 2018. The trailer was also reported stolen from Hesperia on January 30, 2018. The trailer contained frozen food which was not kept refrigerated, and the contents are expected to be a total loss. A search of the big rig’s interior yielded approximately 10 grams of methamphetamine.
In September 2017, Edgley was placed on Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS), from a previous arrest and conviction for vehicle theft. Two years prior, Edgley led deputies on an hour long, multi-county pursuit, also in another stolen big rig.
Edgley was booked at the High Desert Detention Center for vehicle theft and felony evading. His bail is set at $100,000 and is scheduled for court on February 7, 2018.
Edgley is also suspected in other tractor-trailer thefts. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Apple Valley Police Department at (760) 240-7400.
