Officer Involved Shooting in Nice

On February 5, 2018 at approximately 11:40 AM Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 6000 block of Marin Street in Nice for a report of a suspicious male in the area. At approximately 11:55 AM the Sheriff’s Office received a second report of a male brandishing a firearm in the 4000 block of Nice Road.
A Lake County Deputy contacted the armed suspect in the area of Burpee Drive and Lakeview Drive. Shots were fired and the suspect died as a result of his injuries at the scene. The scene is contained and the Sheriff’s Office does not believe there are any outstanding suspects. The suspect’s identity is not being released pending notification of next of kin. The deputy was not injured and will be placed on routine paid administrative leave.
The county's critical incident protocol was activated. The Lake County District Attorney’s Office will be assisting the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit with the investigation of this incident. The investigation is continuing and additional details will be released when they are available.
