UPDATE: Both lanes of E 36th Street over the Hardy Dam are expected to be OPENED by 5:30 pm today (February 5, 2018).

Contractors worked  throughout the day to clear the ice causing the issue and re-set the tipping wall blocks onto the foundation. It is anticipated no further closures will be needed at this time.

On Thursday, February 1, 2018, Consumers Energy was made aware that the top of the tipping wall (cement blocks on the North Side of the Roadway) at Hardy Dam is tilted about 4 inches toward the downstream direction, toward the emergency spillway.
On Sunday, February 4, 2018, due to additional shifting of the tipping wall, in order to protect vehicles and the roadway, E 36th Street over the Hardy Dam was closed. The issue was above ground so there was no risk of a release of water. At no time was there risk to Hardy Dam, Croton Dam, or downstream residents.

Newaygo County Emergency Services continues to actively work with Consumers Energy and the Newaygo County Road Commission. As additional information becomes available, updates will be released via NIXLE.
