Deputies arrest two Apple Valley residents for being in possession of cockfighting instruments

DATE/TIME OF INCIDENT: Friday, February 2, 2018 at 5:45am

INCIDENT: FELON IN POSSESSION OF A FIREARM/ POSSESSION OF GAMEFOWL FOR FIGHTING / POSSESSION OF COCKFIGHTING INSTRUMENTS

LOCATION: 15400 Block of Apache Road

SUSPECT: Ruben Rodriguez, 45 Years old, resident of Apple Valley
Alexander Rodriguez, 24 years old, resident of Apple Valley


SUMMARY:
On Friday, February 2, 2018, at 5:45am, the Sheriff’s Rural Crime Task Force along with Sheriff’s Specialized Detectives and detectives from the Victor Valley Station served a search warrant in the 15400 block of Apache Road for evidence of a fighting game bird operation. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Departments Rural Crime Task Force assisted with gathering information on the suspects from contacts in their county, and assisted with the search of the location. Apple Valley Animal Control assisted with seizing the birds. In all 53 fighting roosters were seized, along with game bird fighting implements, injectable supplements and game bird fighting publications. Most of the roosters had their combs and waddles cut off in preparation for fighting. The roosters had their natural spurs trimmed for the placement of metal knives.

The primary suspect, Ruben Rodriguez, a convicted felon, was found to be in possession of an AR-15 rifle and several hundred rounds of ammunition. Three additional firearms were located in the residence.

Another resident at the location, Alexander Rodriguez was found to be in possession of multiple cockfighting knives. Ruben Rodriguez was arrested and booked at High Desert Detention Center. Alexander Rodriguez was arrested and cite released.
