Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide investigators are releasing the identity of the male shot by a deputy after advancing towards him with a knife in his hand.

The Institute of Forensic Science has positively identified Mark Renee Flores (DOB 05/04/1971) as the deceased male.

On Monday, January 29, 2018, at approximately 1:40 PM, Emergency Medical Services responded to 5711 W. Sam Houston Parkway N. in reference to a male passed out in the backseat of a vehicle.

Emergency Medical Services arrived on scene and observed Flores asleep in the backseat of the car. EMS opened the backdoor of the vehicle, to check on his welfare, and he lunged at them with a knife.

He then fled the scene in the vehicle.

After the incident with EMS, it was learned the vehicle Flores was driving was stolen in an Aggravated Robbery on Saturday, January 27, 2018.

Investigators learned that Flores and a 28 year old male were traveling in the 9600 block of Maple Leaf in northwest Harris County.

An argument ensued between the two men, and Flores stabbed the male several times in the upper body.

Flores forced the man out of the vehicle and fled.

The complainant was rushed to a local hospital in critical but stable condition.

At approximately 2:15 PM, a Harris County Sheriff's Deputy and a Texas Department of Public Safety State Trooper located the stolen vehicle and Flores in a large church parking lot located at 6646 Addicks Satsuma Rd.

Flores exited the vehicle with a knife in hand. He then raised the knife and walked forward toward the deputy. The deputy discharged his weapon, striking, and killing the suspect.

This incident is being investigated by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs, Harris County Sheriff’s Office of Inspector General and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
