Fatal Traffic Collision January 26, 2018

On January 26, 2018, at approximately 9:22 pm, officers from the Torrance Police Department responded to a major injury traffic collision involving a pedestrian and motor vehicle at the intersection of Hawthorne Boulevard and Del Amo Circle Drive.

On arrival, officers discovered that a 2013, Hyundai Sonata had collided with a pedestrian at the intersection of Hawthorne Boulevard and Del Amo Circle Drive. The initial investigation indicates the Hyundai was traveling northbound in the number four lane of Hawthorne Boulevard at Del Amo Circle Drive with a green signal when it collided with a pedestrian who was crossing Hawthorne Boulevard, eastbound on the north side of the intersection.

The pedestrian, an unidentified female adult was treated by Torrance Fire Department personnel at the scene, but succumbed to her injuries.   The driver and sole occupant of the Hyundai, a 23 year-old female resident of Gardena was not injured in the collision. Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the collision at this time.

The northbound lanes of Hawthorne Boulevard were closed between and Carson Street and Fashion Way for approximately 5 hrs hours during the collision investigation.

This collision is being investigated by the Torrance Police Department’s Traffic Division under the command of Captain Martin Vukotic, Commander of the Special Operations Bureau.  Anyone with information regarding this collision is encouraged to contact the Torrance Police Department’s Traffic Division at (310) 618-5557.
