Patrol Cops Take Another Gun Off the Streets
On January 18, 2018 at approximately 8:54pm, a pair of Berkeley Police Officers stopped a car in the area of Acton and Ward Streets for a vehicle code offense. When the officers made contact with the occupants they could smell the odor of burnt marijuana emanating from the car.
During a search of the car, officers discovered a pistol, ammunition, and additional marijuana in a backpack belonging to the passenger (identified as Samuel Howard 21, of Oakland). The officers also found gloves and an auto glass window punch (commonly used to commit auto burglaries) in the area where Howard was sitting.
Howard was arrested for a number of weapons related charges as well as possession of burglary tools and booked into the City of Berkeley Jail. The driver, a 21 year old female adult of Antioch, was initially detained at the scene and was later released.
The Berkeley Police Department takes great pride in its efforts to take illegal firearms off the streets.
