Incident: Residential Burglary

Suspects : David Chavez, 19, Emeryville; Samuel Morales, 28, Emeryville

Charges: 459 PC, 466 PC, 148(a)(1) PC, 10851 VC & 1203.2(a) PC

Narrative: Officers responded to the garage of the Madison Park Apartment Complex on a report of two suspicious people, later identified as David Chaves and Samuel Morales, who were reported to be in a secured bicycle room located in the complex garage. The apartment complex was recently targeted by bicycle thief’s and the security team was actively monitoring the security video for suspicious subjects. When officers arrived, they attempted to speak to the suspicious subjects, both Chaves and Morales fled. After a short foot pursuit both were detained by officers. Both Chaves and Morales were identified by property management as the same suspects from prior bike thefts.

A recently stolen vehicle out of Oakland was also located on scene. This vehicle was stolen during a residential burglary in Oakland. Chaves had the key to this vehicle on his person. Morales is on probation for stolen property and was re-arrested.
