News Story - Ojai Citizen's Academy

Nature of Incident: Ojai Citizen’s Academy Report Number: N/A Location: Ojai Police Station, 402 S. Ventura St., Ojai Ca. Date & Time: February 21, 2018 to April 25, 2018 Unit(s) Responsible: Ojai Police Department Narrative: On February 21, 2018, the Ojai Police Department will begin its 2018 Citizen's Academy program. This is a ten-week course designed to give citizens an overview of the police department's function and operational procedures. There will be presentations by a superior court judge, K-9 officer, S.W.A.T. team members, bomb squad, narcotic officers, search and rescue members, and many others. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet the Chief of Police and get a comprehensive tour of the police station. There will be field trips to the Pre-Trial Detention Facility (main jail), Sheriff's Dispatch, the Sheriff's Training Academy, and heliport. Participants will also get the opportunity to go on a ride-along with a patrol deputy in Ojai. Anyone interested in attending the Citizen's Academy can get an application at the Ojai Police Station or Ojai City Hall. You can also have one mailed to you by calling 646-1414 during normal business hours. Potential candidates must be at least 18 years of age, live or work in Ojai or the unincorporated area of the Ojai Valley, have no felony convictions, and have no misdemeanor convictions within one year of applying. Applications can be mailed, faxed (640-1803), e-mailed to [email protected] or dropped off at the police station. Classes will meet on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM for ten weeks.
