Advisory

David Jacobson arrested on Hilton Head for Sexual Exploitation of a Minor following ICAC initiated investigation.

Sheriff's Office investigators received a lead from the South Carolina Attorney General's Office Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) initiative of child pornography being downloaded from the internet from computers and/or electronic devices at a residence on Hilton Head Island. Further investigation substantiated the lead and revealed the child pornography had been downloaded at 17 Bridgetown Road. Based on the information, investigators obtained a warrant to search the Bridgetown Road residence to locate and seize the computers and/or electronic devices used to download child pornography.

Thursday morning, Sheriff's Office investigators served the search warrant at 17 Bridgetown Road. The subject of the investigation, 58-year-old David Jacobson, was present at the residence when investigators served the warrant. Located inside the residence and subsequently seized on the authority of the search warrant was a laptop computer, as a preliminary examination of the computer revealed evidence of child pornography.

David Jacobson was interviewed by Sheriff’s Office investigators and disclosed he was the owner of the laptop computer and was responsible for downloading the child pornography. As a result, he was arrested and charged with Sexual Exploitation of a Minor 3rd Degree. Jacobson was transported to the Beaufort County Detention Center, where he was incarcerated without incident.

In depth forensic examinations of the seized laptop computer will be performed by the Sheriff’s Office Forensic Services Laboratory (Computer Crimes Unit) and the South Carolina Attorney General's Office, which could lead to additional criminal charges for Jacobson.

As of this morning, David Jacobson remained incarcerated on a $10,000 bond that had been set for the Sexual Exploitation of a Minor 3rd Degree charge by a Beaufort County magistrate. Subjects, like Jacobson, who are charged in connection with ICAC initiated investigations are prosecuted by the South Carolina Attorney General's Office.
