Narrative: During the month of January 2018, detectives with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation that led to the arrests of two subjects and the recovery of ten illegally possessed firearms.

On January 17, 2018, detectives with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation involving the illegal sales and transfer of firearms. Detectives identified John Flores and Camilo Zamora as the two subjects involved.Detectives subsequently contacted Flores and Zamora in the City of Oxnard and arrested them after a brief vehicle and foot pursuit. Detectives recovered several firearms during the contact. Additionally, Flores possessed a small amount of heroin and syringes used to inject it.

Detectives later executed a search warrant in the 1900 Block of North 6th Place in the City of Port Hueneme, where detectives seized several additional firearms and ammunition. Detectives followed up on information and searched a second location in the City of Oxnard. Detectives seized a total of ten firearms, which included six handguns and four rifles. Based on the investigation, detectives determined Flores and Zamora both have extensive criminal histories which include felony convictions that prohibit them from owning and or possessing any firearms or ammunition. Additionally, they are both on active Ventura County probation for various charges.

Flores and Zamora were both booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility for various charges. Flores’ charges include violations of Penal Code sections 29800(a)(1)-Felon in possession of firearm, 30305(a)(1)-Felon in possession of ammunition, Health and Safety Code sections 11350(a)-Possession of a controlled substance, 11364(a)-Possession of drug paraphernalia and Vehicle Code section 2800.2(a)-Felony evading. Zamora’s charges include violations of Penal Code sections 29800(a)(1)-Felon in possession of firearm, 30305(a)(1)-Felon in possession of ammunition, 25400(a)(3)-Carry concealed firearm in vehicle and 148(a)1)-Resist, obstruct or delay a police officer. Flores’ and Zamora’s bail was set at $200,000.00. They are currently in custody awaiting court proceedings. The investigation into the recovered firearms is ongoing.
