Narrative:
On January 16, 2018, construction crews were trenching in the street in the 1500 block of Adele Place and located a possible underground construction related explosive. During the ground excavation, explosive blasting wires were discovered emanating from underground bore holes. This required additional investigation with the assistance of commercial blasting experts.
It was confirmed that commercial explosives had been used in the land development that occurred around 1973. Over the next two days, specialists from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Bomb Team, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Arson and Explosives Detail, and a Los Angeles Field Division FBI Bomb Technician performed assessments and analysis, which included the deployment of specialized instrumentation and the collection of soil samples to determine the presence of explosive material. The investigation concluded there were no explosives remaining.
On January 19, 2018, at 8:45 AM, the investigation concluded and the scene was rendered safe for normal residential activities.
