The City of Simi Valley Office of Emergency Services is no longer accepting applications for the winter 2018 Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) Academy – THE CLASS IS FULL!
Although the article announcing open enrollment for the winter CERT Academy just appeared in the ACORN newspaper this morning (Friday, January 19, 2018) open enrollment actually began 10-days ago through our social media outreach on Nixle, Nextdoor and Facebook. The CERT Academy is now FULL and we are no longer accepting applications for the winter 2018 session.
Residents are reminded about the importance of having a formal “plan” for all types of emergencies and to do everything possible to prepare ahead of time. Although our greatest threat is from an earthquake, we are vulnerable to many other hazards here in Southern California, as witnessed from the recent devastation and loss of life and destruction of property from the Thomas Fire and the mudslides that followed in Montecito.
Because disasters and emergencies are unpredictable, the City’s Office of Emergency Services hosts three (3) CERT Academy’s each year to help residents become better prepared. Interested residents are encouraged to enroll promptly, as this course is very popular and fills quickly.
