Police raid 18th Cal City home - 9500 block Evelyn Ave - find rental home damaged with modifications, marijuana grow
Cal City Police uncovered an illegal marijuana grow operation after owners discovered home had been converted to grow 100's of plants. Shortly before 4:00 PM today, officers responded to a home in the 9500 block of Evelyn Ave after the owner of a rental home became concerned over their home. Officers discovered 100's of plants growing inside the home. All of the rooms, including the kitchen, family room and bedrooms had temporary walls and electrical lines installed. The electrical lines hung from ceilings and large holes were punched into the walls to circulate the humid air inside the home. Large electric lights were hung from the ceilings and powered by unsafe wiring. The home will be "Red tagged" due to the safety hazards found inside the home.
Officials have estimated over $500,000 in damages to these homes that were illegaly modified to house a commercial side marijuana grow operation. These homes all were found to have holes near the electrical meters where the growers were bypassing the electric meter to steal the electricity.
No suspects were located during todays raid. 9 Suspects have been arrested over the past 6 weeks from these series of raids. Over 3 tons of marijuana plants have been seized.
