Robbery Arrests

On January 17, 2018, Torrance Police Department Investigators arrested five subjects all from Houston, Texas for charges ranging from robbery, conspiracy and vehicle burglary.  Investigators believe these subjects are involved in “Bank Jugging”, a term coined to describe suspects who sit in bank parking lots and watch customers carrying bank bags. The suspects follow customers they believe possess large amounts of cash and look for an opportunity to burglarize their vehicles or rob them directly.

On January 16, 2018, a victim who just left their financial institution lost $16,000.00 when his parked vehicle was broken into while having lunch inside a local Taco Bell.  Investigators quickly identified multiple suspects, then observed them commit a robbery the following day after a customer left a Hanmi Bank branch in Los Angeles.  Investigators recovered stolen money and binoculars during their follow-up searches.

The Torrance Police Department encourages the community to immediately secure their bank bags and envelopes after visiting their local banks and credit unions.  Residents are also reminded to stay vigilant and report all suspicious activity, “See Something Say Something”.

This case is being investigated by the Torrance Police Department’s Detective and Special Investigations Division under the command of Captain Martin Vukotic, Commander of the Special Operations Bureau.
