TWO KNOWN GANG MEMBERS ATTEMPTING TO SET UP SHOP IN MARIETTA ARE NOW IN CUSTODY FACING A MULTITUDE OF CHARGES
On January 10th, 2018 at approximately 8:30 PM dispatch advised they received multiple calls about gun fire near Bells Ferry Road and Williams Drive. Responding officers and detectives working together were able to gain control of a chaotic situation and piece together a complex chain of events that involved multiple crimes in the area. By midnight, (3) individuals were in custody facing numerous charges.
The investigation of the initial call at 8:30 PM on January 10th revealed that a dispute occurred near the Circle K parking lot regarding the purchase of narcotics. During the dispute, Antonio Williams stabbed Anthony McCuen. Moments later, McCuen ran after Williams shooting him multiple times. McCuen was treated for his injuries and has been booked into Cobb ADC. Williams is also in custody, still recovering from his injuries.
During the initial investigation, detectives discovered that a third party, Demarquez Simmons was also involved in the dispute. Simmons provided a false name and date of birth and was arrested. Simmons was taken into custody and booked into Cobb ADC.
Detectives recovered two hand guns near the original crime scene. The unique look of one of the guns lead detectives to an open investigation of two armed robberies that also occurred near the same Circle K gas station. McCuen and Simmons were positively identified as the two individuals responsible for the armed robberies that had occurred several hours earlier, the morning of January 10th, 2018. This investigation led to yet another discovery; stolen items in McCuen’s possession. The items were stolen in a vehicle break-in that occurred the previous day, January 9th, 2018.
While reviewing the case, a Marietta Police gang investigator was able to determine that McCuen and Simmons are members of the Gangster Disciples gang. Additional warrants were secured charging them both with violating the Criminal Street Gang act.
