FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  January 17, 2018

Incident: Armed Home Invasion Robbery Investigation
Report Number: 180117003
Location:  43300 block of Montrose Ave
Date/Time of Incident: Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at 12:15 a.m.

Fremont Police Crimes Against Persons Detectives and the Southern Alameda County Major Crimes Task Force is jointly investigating an armed home invasion robbery and large scale marijuana grow.

Summary:

At 12:15 a.m., Fremont Police Dispatchers received several reports of a female pounding on doors screaming for help.  Fremont patrol officers immediately responded to ascertain the problem in the 43300 block of Montrose Ave with those closest in proximity, rolling with lights and siren.  Fremont Dispatchers also contacted Fremont Fire, who immediately responded and staged in the area.  Officers arrived on scene within two minutes and learned two females had been the victim of a home invasion robbery and one was suffering from minor injuries.

Two female residents were in their residence when a noise was heard in the backyard.  Believing the noise was from her dog, one of the females got up to let it out the back door.  When she opened the door, she was confronted by two male suspects wearing dark-hooded clothing.  One suspect was armed with a handgun and the other a baseball bat.  The female tried to go out the back door to get to her dog when the suspects began battering her, causing injuries.  The second female fled the residence on foot and heard a single gunshot come from the residence.  She began knocking on the doors of neighbors to obtain help.  When officers arrived, the two suspects only described as adult males of Asian or Vietnamese descent had fled the scene.  No vehicle was seen.

During a search of the residence, a large scale marijuana grow and operation was located.  The illegal marijuana grow occupied three bedrooms of the house, with an estimate of 300-400 plants in various stages of growth. Officers located a single bullet hole in a vehicle parked across the street, consistent with the report of a single shot being fired during the incident.  The injured female victim was transported to a hospital where she was treated for her injuries and later released.

Crimes Against Persons Detectives and Agents from the Southern Alameda County Major Crimes Task Force were called out during the night to take the lead on the investigation.  During the night, a search warrant was served and crime scene investigators collected evidence at the scene.  This remains an ongoing investigation with no further details to release at this time.
