Morning Snowfall Results in 14 crashes

South Brunswick Police handled 14 motor vehicle crashes between 7am and 9:30am as a result of this morning’s snowfall. One crash on Beekman Road caused a Township sand truck to flip over.

At 7:14am a 2004 Honda Civic operated by Shylaja Suresh age 39 of Kendall Park was headed westbound on Beekman Road. As Ms. Suresh approached a crest in the road, she lost control of her vehicle and began to drift into the eastbound travel lane. A South Brunswick Township Public Works sand truck was headed eastbound at the same time. The truck driver, Jermaine Epps age 42 of South Brunswick, swerved to the right to avoid a collision but the Civic struck the truck’s rear drivers wheel causing the truck to flip over. Mr. Epps evasive action avoided serious injury to Ms. Suresh.

Epps was able to free himself from the truck. He was taken by South Brunswick EMS to University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro for treatment of lacerations. Ms. Suresh was uninjured.

South Brunswick Police Traffic Safety Bureau investigated the crash. Ms. Suresh was issued two summonses, one for careless driving and the other for obstructing the passage of other vehicles.

Beekman Road between Route 1 and Jared Boulevard was closed for two hours during the investigation.

None of the other crashes in the Township had any serious injuries.

Local Weather Forecast
Snow Trending Lighter...The prolonged steadier shots of snow are diminishing across Central NJ and for the next few hours expect a light to perhaps a very brief burst of moderate snow. Though we have pushed end times of the snow later by a few hours, snow probably is hard pressed to accumulate any more because of daylight and a lighter intensity. This is especially true on any treated areas. In the 0.5 - 2.0" predicted range, most probably finish 1-2". For temperatures we do stay in the 30s the rest of the daytime, but there is a drop into the 20s after sunset. The later end of the snow may allow for more surfaces to stay wet, so keep an eye on anything that increasing wind doesn't help to dry out as that can lead to refreeze
