Possible Underground Construction Explosive Found in Residential Neighborhood

On January 16, 2018, construction crews were trenching the street in the 1500 block of Adele Place when they located a possible underground construction related explosive. The construction crew immediately notified the Thousand Oaks Police Department.

Officers with the Thousand Oaks Police Department and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Bomb Team responded. The material was stabilized and made safe. No property or persons are in danger at this time and no evacuations are necessary.

Investigators determined the explosive was left behind from construction that occurred around 1973. Specialized equipment is being brought in for further evaluation and safe removal of the material.

The neighborhood is open for normal activity; however, the cul-de-sac is restricted to residents only. Residents will be updated regularly.
