Morgan Hill Detectives arrest Armed Robbery Suspect in Hollister.

Morgan Hill Police Responded to an armed robbery on 12/24/2017, Christmas Eve at the EYEfiniTEA Optique & Lounge located at 15700 Monterey Rd #100.

The suspect entered the store wearing a surgical mask, looked around for several minutes, selected two sets of eyewear and approached the counter as if he were going to pay for the items. Once the clerk appeared behind the register, the suspect lifted his shirt and displayed a handgun in his waist. He then demanded the money from the register and fled with the cash and the eyewear.
Morgan Hill Police developed leads in the case which led to the identity of the suspect as Matthew Aaron De La Rosa of Hollister. MHPD released surveillance photos of the robbery and suspect De La Rosa to local law enforcement agencies and were notified immediately that they had also taken reports of the same suspect in their jurisdictions. De La Rosa is known to have committed armed robberies in Morgan Hill, Sunnyvale, Monterey, Seaside, San Jose, and Capitola.

On January 12, 2018, Morgan Hill Police Detectives with the assistance of Agents from the Unified Narcotic Enforcement Team (UNET) conducted surveillance / follow up in Hollister. De La Rosa was subsequently located and arrested without incident. De La Rosa was located with his girlfriend Christy Aguirre, 44 of Hollister who was arrested by the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office for multiple unrelated charges.

A search warrant was served at De La Rosa’s residence in Hollister where he lived with Aguirre. During the search warrant service, evidence was located from the Morgan Hill and Monterey robberies.

Morgan Hill Police Detectives questioned De La Rosa about all of the above mentioned robberies. De La Rosa confessed to committing all six armed robberies. He was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on multiple armed robbery charges.
