Deputies arrest SR man after vehicle/foot pursuit, crash.

It was a very busy graveyard shift for the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office. At about 1:30 AM this morning a deputy spotted a red Hyundai near McMinn and Sunset and attempted to stop the car as it ran a stop sign. The vehicle initially stopped and, as the deputy was walking up to the violator, the vehicle sped away southbound at a high speed.  The Nissan stopped near Sunset and Burbank and a woman got out of the passenger side of the car. The deputy stopped and determined she was an unwilling participant in the pursuit. She told the deputy her friend, Jorge was the driver, was drunk, and had an open bottle of alcohol with him in the car.

The driver continued southbound on Burbank Ave at a high rate of speed as the deputy stayed with the woman. The deputy called out the vehicle’s direction of travel to other responding units. When the car got to Hearn Ave the deputy heard a loud crash.

Another deputy responding to the call found that the Nissan had crashed into a light pole near Burbank and Hearn Ave. The deputy saw the driver, later determined to be 34-year-old Jorge Alvarado Urena, climbing out of the passenger side window. Urena started running eastbound on Hearn Ave. The deputy gave chase and was able to catch him after a short foot pursuit. The deputy pushed Urena to the ground and got him handcuffed without incident. Urena started complaining of injury from the car crash so an ambulance was called.

Urena was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released for his injuries. He was booked into the Sonoma County Jail on charges of evading a peace officer, DUI, violation of probation, hit and run, driving on a suspended license, operating a motor vehicle without a court-ordered interlock device and resisting arrest. He is being held on $35,000 bail.
