In December of last year the Jackson City Council made two changes to the parking regulations in the Downtown Business District. First, all of the free on-street one-hour parking spaces were changed to be free on-street two-hour parking spaces.
Mayor Gist, the Jackson City Council and the Jackson Downtown Development group hope that doubling the length of the free parking time makes it more convenient for everyone to come to the Downtown Business District to shop and enjoy our city center. Secondly, the same ordinance that lengthened the free parking time increased the overtime parking fines.
The new overtime parking fine is now $10.00, this is the first such increase in decades.
