Press Release: Traffic Stop Leads to Loaded Handgun

SUSPECT VEHICLE: Black 2003 Chevy Corvette Coupe
On January 5, 2018, at approximately 8:00 P.M., a Milpitas Police officer was driving from the parking lot of City Hall when he saw a black 2003 Chevy Corvette traveling on East Calaveras Boulevard without a front license plate and with expired registration tabs. After a traffic enforcement stop, the officer noticed the driver appeared to be under the influence of drugs. The officer arrested the driver, later identified as Armando Sarmiento, and searched the car, which resulted in a loaded handgun under the driver seat and drug paraphernalia. Sarmiento was booked into the Santa Clara County main jail for unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, being under the influence of drugs, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
