The City of Simi Valley Office of Emergency Services is hosting the winter 2018 Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) Academy, from January 24th – March 3rd.
The CERT Academy trains residents to become self-reliant and better prepared for emergencies and disasters of all types. Students will learn how to build their own emergency supply kit for the home, work or vehicle. The training teaches basic disaster response skills, such as extinguishing small fires, light search and rescue, team organization, and the medical do’s & don’ts in a disaster environment. Using the information learned in the classroom and during hands-on exercises, participants learn how to assist their family or others in their neighborhood and workplace following a major disaster when professional responders are often not immediately available.
The CERT Academy is free of charge! Anyone 18 years or older, who lives or works in Simi Valley is eligible to participate. Each participant will receive a student workbook, a CERT start-up kit (helmet, work gloves, vest, safety goggles and flashlight) and a certificate upon completion of the entire course. Classes will be held on six (6) consecutive Wednesday evenings from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM at the City’s Emergency Operations Center. The start date for the 2018 winter session is January 24, 2018. A one-day disaster simulation wraps up the course on Saturday, March 3, 2018.

If you are interested in signing-up for the winter CERT Academy, applications are currently being accepted on a first-come-first-served basis until 6:00 PM, Monday, January 22nd OR until the class is full, whichever comes first.
