A Deputy Involved Shooting occurred when deputies located an armed suspect who had been burglarizing vehicles

LOCATION: Area of Amador Avenue and Navajo Trail, Yucca Valley

SUSPECT: Daryll Speer, age 22 a resident of 29 Palms
SUMMARY:
On Monday, January 8, 2018, at 7:30 am, deputies from the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station/Yucca Valley Police Department responded to the area of Amador Avenue and Navajo Trail following the report of suspicious persons running thru multiple backyards, dressed in all black carrying on object covered in a tan blanket. Upon arrival, deputies located a Caucasian female and Caucasian male in the wash near Trojan Lane and Highway 62. The male suspect, later identified as Daryll Speer, was armed with a gun and refused deputies’ commands to drop the weapon and, a Deputy Involved Shooting occurred. Speer was transported to a local area hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.
Sheriff’s Homicide Investigators responded to conduct the investigation. Investigators have determined that Speer was entering unlocked vehicles and backyards in the area when he was seen by the reporting party running thru the backyard of residences. Two residents have contacted the Sheriff’s Department to report they were victims of theft.
