Marina Security Check Yields Two Loaded Pistols

On January 7, 2018 at approximately 3:42am, a Berkeley Patrol Officer was conducting a security check in a parking lot in the Berkeley Marina when he observed two people sleeping in a running silver sedan.  When the officer got to the driver side window he saw an open container of alcohol (a violation of the California Vehicle Code) in plain view. The officers then noticed the male driver was holding a pipe used to smoke methamphetamine.  The officer requested a second officer be dispatched to the scene and when he arrived they woke the sleepers and had them exit the car (the occupants were identified as Mamun Saeidah 31, of Suisun, and Corina Tito-Lopez 25, of Berkeley).  As they did so, one of the officers spotted a pistol on the driver's floorboard (which they later learned was loaded). The occupants were immediately handcuffed.

A search of the vehicle revealed a second loaded pistol concealed in a gun box on the backseat as well as a leaded cane.

Saeidah was booked for number of weapons charges, possession of drug paraphernalia, a probation violation, and driving a motor vehicle while his license suspended for driving under the influence.

Tito-Lopez was subsequently arrested for possession of a concealed firearm in vehicle, and carrying a loaded firearm.

The Berkeley Police Department takes great pride in our ongoing efforts to take illegally possessed firearms off the streets and help make our community a safer place.
