“Police Blotter” Highlights – Ending Jan. 7, 2018
WEAPONS ARRESTS
On Monday, Jan. 1st, around 10:45 a.m., Ofc. Olson contacted two individuals during a security check at Seven Hills Park (384 Florence St.). During a consensual search of the vehicle, he located a loaded, concealed revolver. Union City residents Jose Sanchez Chaidez, 20, and Carla Castro Garcia, 19, were arrested for carrying a loaded firearm in a public place.
BRANDISHING
On Monday, Jan. 1st, around 9 p.m., Ofc. Stange was dispatched to the 32400 block of Ithaca St. on the report of a subject brandishing a gun. The victim said he was putting items in his vehicle when a silver Mercedes C300 sedan pulled up next to him, and the passenger pointed a handgun at him. The victim ran inside his house, and the vehicle sped away. The suspect was described as an Asian male, 18-19, clean shaven with a thin build.
VEHICLE THEFT ARRESTS
On Thursday, Jan. 4th, around 9:10 p.m., Ofc. Bedford located a stolen vehicle parked in the 30000 block of Industrial Parkway. The driver and sole occupant fled on foot, but was ultimately apprehended. Rene Cambatorres, a 30-year-old Oakland resident, was arrested for vehicle theft, resisting arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
On Saturday, Jan. 6th, around 6:40 p.m., Ofc. Sears made a traffic stop in the 900 block of Whipple Rd. The vehicle turned out to be an unreported stolen vehicle out of Hayward. A search of the vehicle yielded shaved keys and other burglary tools. Tyler Sproge, a 29-year-old Union City resident, was arrested for vehicle theft, the possession of burglary tools, and driving without a license.
ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON
On Friday, Jan. 5th, around 1:10 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 30300 block of Whipple Rd. on the report of an employee threatening a coworker with a knife. Diego Mas, a 34-year-old Union City resident, was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.
ROBBERY
On Saturday, Jan. 6th, around 12:10 a.m., Ofc. Mangan was dispatched to the 1500 block of Decoto Rd. on the report of an armed robbery. The victim said he was walking through the parking lot when two subjects asked him for the time. When he looked at his phone to check the time, one of the suspects pointed a black handgun at him and demanded his phone and wallet. Both suspects fled on foot. They were both described as black males, 18-22 years old with thin builds. One suspect was about 5’10” to 6’1”; the other was about 5’5” to 5’7.”
TRESPASSING
On Saturday, Jan. 6th, around 9 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 2100 block of Decoto Rd. for the report of a subject sleeping inside a vacant apartment. Anthony Pepito, a 44-year-old Union City resident, was arrested for trespassing, resisting arrest, the misappropriation of found property, and the possession of drug paraphernalia.
BURGLARIES AND CAR THEFTS
RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES
From Monday, Jan. 1st through Sunday, Jan. 7th, there was one reported residential burglary:
- 34400 block of Torrey Pine Ln.: Occurred between Friday, Dec. 29th at 12 p.m., and Sunday, Jan. 7th at 2 p.m. The rear sliding glass door was smashed, and the loss is unknown at this time.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARIES
From Monday, Jan. 1st through Sunday, Jan. 7th, there was one reported commercial burglary:
- 33100 block of Alvarado Niles Rd.: Occurred on Monday, Jan. 1st, around 12:30 a.m. An unknown suspect smashed the glass front door, and stole the tip container from the counter. The suspect appeared to be a white or Hispanic male in his early to mid-20s, about 5’10” with a medium build.
AUTO BURGLARIES AND VEHICLE THEFTS
From Monday, Jan. 1st through Sunday, Jan. 7th, there were seven reported auto burglaries. Five of the burglaries occurred in residential areas, and one occurred at the Union Landing shopping center.

From Monday, Jan. 1st through Sunday, Jan. 7th, there were three reported vehicle thefts. As of the time of this report, one of the vehicles has been recovered.
