Advisory

Controlled burn planned near 3000 Lucas Valley Rd., today 10am-4pm. Fire info: 415-473-7191.

Today, Marin County Fire Department (MCFD) will conduct some brush pile burning around 3000 Lucas Valley Road, near Big Rock. Rain or shine, they will burn about 50 piles of dead wood with an ignition time of 10 a.m. and expect to finish by 4 p.m. Smoke should not be a factor after noon. Doing it in the light rain is safer for our firefighters and the public because it helps reduce the threat of controlled burns from spreading. The purpose of the burn is to reduce fuel loading in the area, in preparation to slow and stop wildfire in the area in the future. MCFD promotes controlled burns to help reduce calls to our emergency dispatchers about the sight or smell of smoke. If you have neighbors who are not on social media, please give them a phone call or knock on their door so they aren't surprised by MCFD’s scheduled burn. If you have questions about the fire, you can call MCFD’s fire information line at (415) 473-7191. Only call 9-1-1 if you are facing a life-threatening emergency. This also serves as a good reminder about the importance of defensible space around your homes. As you think about seasonal shrub and tree trimming, remember that you can improve your chances of your home's survival in a wildfire. Learn more at www.firesafemarin.org/defensible-space.
