Reminder: Remove Snow and Ice from Sidewalks and Vehicles.
Now that the snowstorm has passed, the Denville Police Department would like to remind all residents that all public sidewalks must be cleared of ice or snow within 12 hours of daylight after the snow has stopped falling as per Township Ordinance. For sidewalks at corners or where they meet marked crosswalks, the snow and ice also needs to be removed to the plowed edge of the roadway. This is to ensure the safety of all pedestrians using the sidewalks. Failure to properly clear the snow and ice from the sidewalk may result in a summons requiring a Court appearance.
In addition, we would also like to remind you that as per State law, you are required to remove all snow and ice from your vehicle before you drive. Failure to do so puts other drivers and pedestrians at risk of being struck by any ice or snow dislodged from your vehicle. In addition, failure to do so may result in a summons carrying a fine of between $25 and $75 for each offense. If the dislodged snow or ice results in any property damage or injury, you would be subject to a fine of between $200 to $1,000 for each offense.
Please stay safe and be mindful of any ice on the roadways and sidewalks while the cold weather continues to persist.
