UPDATE ON BLIZZARD IMPACTING SUFFOLK COUNTY

As expected, Winter Storm Grayson has created treacherous driving situations with whiteout conditions with near zero visibility due to strong winds. Traffic has been lighter than usual but the Suffolk County Police Department is still urging everyone to stay off the roads unless it is an absolute emergency situation. Since midnight, the department has responded to more than 30 motor vehicle crashes.

If you MUST travel, the key is to be prepared. Have a survival kit in your vehicle in case of an emergency, including a flashlight, food, water, snow shovel and a heavy blanket for warmth. If you are stranded, stay with your vehicle. If you are in a motor vehicle crash or witness a crash, dial 9-1-1 immediately. If you are in need of non-emergency police response, dial 631-852-COPS (2677.)
