Deputies Investigate Shooting in Keyes

Keyes, CA – Keyes, CA – On 01-02-18 at about 2:08 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the area of 7th Street and Jennie Ave in Keyes for a shooting. When deputies arrived, they learned that two males were fighting in the roadway when a 39-year-old man tried to break them up. When the fight was broken up one of the males turned and shot the victim in the stomach. The victim was transported to the emergency room before deputies arrived and he is expected to survive.

The suspect was identified as a 15-year-old male from Keyes, and he fled the scene before deputies arrived. Deputies began searching for the suspect, and he was found in an orchard in the 5700 Block of Washington Road where he was taken into custody. The suspect was booked at juvenile hall for assault with a deadly weapon. He was also arrested for elder abuse stemming from a December 2017 investigation where he was accused of striking an elderly family member.
