OSBI Investigates Latimer Co Jail Death

Just after noon today (12/30/2017), an inmate at the Latimer County jail requested a shaving razor and soap to shave. Shortly after the inmate was given the shaving utensils, a detention deputy saw on video what he described as suspicious movements inside the 45-year-old man's cell. The deputy checked on the inmate and saw blood on him and inside the cell. Emergency medical technicians transported the inmate to Latimer County Memorial Hospital with lacerations to his neck and wrists. Doctors pronounced him dead just after 2pm. Latimer County Sheriff Jesse James requested OSBI investigate the death. An OSBI agent spent the day collecting evidence, documenting the scene, and interviewing witnesses. The inmate's name will be release once next of kin has been notified. He was booked into the jail on 12/29/2017 for possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, assault and battery with a deadly weapon, and possession of a firearm after a felony conviction.
