...VERY COLD AIR TO ARRIVE SUNDAY NIGHT... .An arctic cold front will move through southern Mississippi and southeast Louisiana during the day on Sunday. Very cold air in the wake of the front will drop temperatures into the lower and middle 20s overnight Sunday night across southwest and coastal Mississippi and the adjacent portions of Parishes north of the I-10 corridor in southeast Louisiana. South of the I-10 corridor in southeast Louisiana tempeatures are expected to drop into the upper 20s and lower 30s overnight Sunday night. The watches are very likely to be upgraded to warnings on Sunday. Cold air will remain across the area for several days, and watches and warnings are likely to be extended. ...FREEZE WATCH IN EFFECT FROM LATE SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY MORNING... The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a Freeze Watch, which is in effect from late Sunday night through Monday morning.

* TEMPERATURE...26 to 32 degrees

* DURATION...6 to 8 hours or longer.

* IMPACTS...an extended period of these temperatures could cause significant damage to sensitive vegetation.

* AFFECTED AREAS: ASSUMPTION ... LOWER JEFFERSON ... LOWER LAFOURCHE ... LOWER PLAQUEMINES ... LOWER ST. BERNARD ... LOWER TERREBONNE ... ORLEANS ... ST. CHARLES ... ST. JAMES ... ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST ... UPPER JEFFERSON ... UPPER LAFOURCHE ... UPPER PLAQUEMINES ... UPPER ST. BERNARD ... UPPER TERREBONNE

Instructions:

Make frequent checks on the elderly. Make sure their furnaces are working and heating the house properly. Be particularly careful with portable heaters...there is a danger of fire or poisonous fumes Pets are also subject to the extreme cold. Keep pets indoors as much as possible. if this is not possible...make sure outdoor pets have warm...dry shelter and provide sufficient food and fresh unfrozen water. A Freeze Watch means sub-freezing temperatures are possible. These conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.
