Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad and Arson Section detectives are investigating a fire that killed a woman and injured her husband at a residence in Amityville this morning.
 
Officers from the Amityville Police Department and members of the Amityville Fire Department responded to the call of a house fire at 58 Locust Drive at 9:15 a.m. Members of the North Amityville, Massapequa and Copiague Fire Departments along with Wyandanch Wheatley Heights Ambulance Corporation also responded.
 
A resident of the home, Rufina Sarkar, 43, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician’s assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. Her husband, Gopal Sarkar, 47, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for treatment of minor injuries. 
 
Detectives believe the cause of the fire appears non-criminal at this time.
