Temple City Officials Warn of Curb Address Painting Scam

The City of Temple City has authorized Canning Hunger, a nonprofit organization, to repaint curb address numbers throughout the city and to solicit donations from residents and businesses for this service. Over the past few weeks, the City has received several complaints that some of the people soliciting donations are being aggressive and rude. After looking into the matter, it appears that some of the people soliciting donations are not from Canning Hunger, and are scammers trying to take advantage of Temple City residents.

Authorized Canning Hunger representatives that are seeking legitimate donations carry Canning Hunger identification cards and will show them upon request. Canning Hunger representatives will also explain that donations are completely voluntary and are not required. If a solicitor at your door does not have a Canning Hunger identification card, or states that a donation is required, they are not authorized by the City and do not represent Canning Hunger. If one of these people comes to your door, do not give them money. Please contact City Hall at 626-285-2171 or email [email protected] to report the incident and provide any information you can about the person and their vehicle.
